Bankston is working to eliminate single-use plastics and non-recyclable materials from our packaging in line with our Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) commitments. Materials are being designed out or replaced with compostable alternatives.
Bankston packaging typically consists of an outer cardboard box with internal protective components to ensure your product is received in the best possible condition. Product boxes may be packed with compostable peanuts to ensure your purchases arrive undamaged. There may also be installation manuals, drilling templates or other paper booklets, as well as plastic bags to protect and contain smaller items such as screws.
Outer and Inner Cardboard Boxes: Our boxes are all made from 100% recycled content. Please remove any labels, compact the box down and place in your recycling bin.
Installation Manuals / Drilling Templates: When these are no longer needed, please dispose in your recycling bin.
Compostable Foam Packing Peanuts: Made from naturally derived starches like wheat and cornstarch, these packing peanuts are entirely plant-based. The most sustainable way to dispose of compostable foam packing peanuts is to place them into your council collection compost bin.
Compostable Mailers: In April 2025, we switched from petroplastic mailers to compostable mailers certified to AS 5810, helping to avoid an estimated 13,000 plastic bags entering landfill every year. Please remove all labels before disposal.
Compostable Pallet Wrap: In February 2025, we replaced plastic pallet wrap in our operations with a compostable alternative certified to AS 5810, removing approximately 750kg of plastic wrap each year.
Plastic & Nylon Bags:
- Plastic bags should be returned to a retailer or collection point that accepts soft plastics for recycling. Check with your local council or recycling authority for available drop-off locations in your area.
- Nylon bags: Our hardware is packaged in protective nylon bags to help prevent scratching and damage during transit. We encourage reusing these bags where possible or donating them to a local charity. If reuse is not practical, they can be disposed of in your general waste bin.
